…and So My Love

And so my love laughs
When there is no reason,
or just because so.
(Porque Si)
Even in the darkest hours
she brings a spark of light
each time she looks my way
In just that way
That I may see
the softening of her smile
and so
My love laughs.

Although
time has come between us
to find us living in parts
Separated at heart.
She may know
I still hear her
in distant calls of seagulls at the shore,
And even so,
my love laughs.

As I ride this never ending road
to places new and memories old
Our past has come and gone like a flash in the pan
Which cannot hope to over shadow her.
And so my love laughs,
and
my intentions scatter in chaos.

Blushing a smile
as if subdued by the
obvious futility
of the plans we have made.
She slips between my thoughts
just as comfortably
as a diner dress
and there remains,
With me
mesmerized.

In the echoes of her laughter
I forgo all those wishes and expectations
I let slip in between us
Abandoning
all that
which I longed for,
and that
Which remains unfulfilled.
In full recognition that
she was what I wanted all along.
And so my love laughs

Thus so my love smiles at all my intellectual banter,
with no apologies necessary
to deny her comprehension.
She just doesn't partake
in such vice.
In her way
she turns away
from my nuanced innuendo,
tossing me a wink
over her shrugging shoulder
as her black hair swings
just slightly
Below her shoulder blades.
And don't you know my heart melts.

Therefore I am compelled
to laugh along with her
As I look into her eyes
and I realize she has known this
all along
And that is why –
My love laughs.
